Complete Protection Guide

Package Safety & Liability

Everything you need to know about protecting your cargo, understanding our liability terms, and what to expect when shipping from UK to India.

Important: What You Need to Know

International cargo shipping involves multiple handling points across two countries. Your package will be handled by pickup drivers, warehouse staff, airport workers, airline personnel, customs officials, and local couriers. Despite protective packaging, there is inherent risk of damage. We strongly advise against sending fragile items. There is no compensation for in-transit damage of any kind.

Pre-Shipment Photos

Request photos of your reinforced package from our warehouse before dispatch. This documents the condition and packaging quality, providing evidence if any disputes arise later.

Simply mention this when booking or contact us via WhatsApp

Delivery Inspection

Before opening your package, photograph it from all angles. Check for visible damage, dents, or signs of tampering. This documentation is essential if you need to report any issues.

Document first, then open and inspect contents

Our Protection Measures

Reinforced Packaging

We combine multiple boxes into reinforced units with outer protective cardboard layers and heavy-duty tape at no extra cost.

Free Materials

Visit our Wembley warehouse for free packaging materials including boxes, bubble wrap, and tape. Pack your items properly before arrival.

Quality Inspection

All packages are inspected at our warehouse. We may add additional protection layers if your packaging appears insufficient.

Honest Reality: While we take every reasonable step to protect your cargo, international shipping involves handling by multiple third parties beyond our control. Heavy cargo is stacked on packages, items go through conveyor systems, and packages travel thousands of miles. Our external protection helps, but cannot guarantee items survive intact. This is the nature of cargo shipping worldwide.

Proactive Customer Protection

Suitcase Warning Email

Every single customer receives a detailed packaging advisory email warning about the risks of using suitcases and travel bags for shipping.

Why we warn against suitcases:

  • Labels detach or fail to scan on curved/fabric surfaces
  • Handles and straps snag on conveyors, tearing labels off
  • Adhesive does not bond well to textured surfaces
  • Many suitcases look identical, increasing mix-ups
  • 60-70% label loss rate on suitcases and bags

This email includes photos of lost suitcases and examples of proper warehouse packaging.

Mandatory Photo Documentation

Every single customer is required to photograph each package before handing it to the courier for collection.

Photo requirements:

  • Photo of each and every package before handover
  • Carrier labels (DPD, DHL, Parcelforce, etc.) must be clearly visible
  • Labels must be readable in the photograph
  • Photos help trace packages if any issues arise
  • Documentation protects both you and us

These photos serve as proof of package condition and label placement at the time of dispatch.

These proactive measures help reduce shipping problems and provide documentation if any issues occur during transit.

Insurance & Liability Terms

Insurance Coverage

per package (approximately £40)

Included with every shipment

Covers: Lost or undeliverable shipments only

What is NOT Covered

  • Damage during transit (breakage, dents, scratches)
  • Fragile items or those prone to breakage
  • Claims for damaged goods of any kind
  • Water damage or moisture exposure
  • Incorrect delivery addresses provided by customer
  • Confiscation of prohibited items by customs

Packing Recommendations

Pack as if your items will be dropped and have heavy cargo stacked on top

Do This

  • Use sturdy, new cardboard boxes (double-walled preferred)
  • Wrap each item individually with cushioning material
  • Fill ALL empty spaces - items should not move when shaken
  • Use cardboard dividers between items
  • Place heavier items at the bottom
  • Seal boxes with strong packing tape on all seams

Avoid This

  • Suitcases and bags (60-70% label loss rate, £15 surcharge)
  • Weak or damaged boxes
  • Loose items rattling inside the box
  • Newspaper as sole cushioning (compresses easily)
  • Overpacking boxes beyond their weight limit
  • Fragile items without extensive protection

Frequently Asked Questions

12 questions about package safety and liability

What happens if my package is lost during shipping?

If a package is lost and undeliverable, our insurance covers up to $50 (approximately £40) per package. To file a claim, contact us within 7 days of the expected delivery date with your booking reference, description of contents, and any supporting documentation. We will investigate with our carrier partners and process valid claims within 14 working days.

Is there compensation for damaged items during transit?

Unfortunately, no. There is no compensation for in-transit damage such as breakage, dents, scratches, or water damage. Your cargo passes through multiple handlers, vehicles, warehouses, and countries. Despite our protective packaging, impacts and pressure from heavy goods stacked on packages cannot be fully prevented. This is why we strongly advise against sending fragile items.

What protective packaging does Cargo Force provide?

We provide free reinforced outer packaging at our warehouse. This includes combining multiple boxes into reinforced units, adding outer protective cardboard layers, and securing packages with heavy-duty tape. We also offer free packaging materials including boxes, tape, and bubble wrap for customers who visit our Wembley warehouse. However, this external protection cannot prevent damage from impacts or heavy loads during transit.

Should I send fragile items like glassware or ceramics?

We strongly advise NOT sending fragile items such as glassware, ceramics, mirrors, picture frames, or delicate electronics. In our experience, these items have a very high breakage rate. Packages undergo multiple handling events, are stacked with heavy cargo, and travel through various conditions. Even with excellent packing, fragile items often arrive damaged. If you must send them, understand there is significant risk and no compensation for breakage.

How should I pack items to minimise damage risk?

Pack as if your items will be dropped from height and have heavy items stacked on top. Use plenty of cushioning material around each item, ensure nothing can move inside the box when shaken, wrap items individually, use cardboard dividers between items, fill all empty spaces with packing material, and use sturdy, new cardboard boxes. Avoid using suitcases or bags as labels often fall off (60-70% label loss rate).

Can I request photos of my package before shipment?

Yes! We recommend requesting pre-shipment photos of your reinforced package from our warehouse. This documents the condition and packaging before dispatch. Simply mention this when booking or contact us via WhatsApp. These photos can be valuable if any disputes arise about packaging quality.

What should I do when receiving my package in India?

Critically important: photograph the package BEFORE opening it. Check the exterior for any visible damage, dents, or signs of tampering. Take photos from all angles. Only then should you open the package and inspect contents. If there is damage, report it immediately with your photos to our customer service team. Documentation at delivery is essential for any investigation.

Why do items get damaged during cargo shipping?

International cargo shipping involves multiple handling points: your home, our pickup vehicle, our warehouse, airport handling, airline cargo hold, destination airport, customs inspection, local courier, and final delivery. At each point, packages are loaded, unloaded, sorted, and stacked. Heavy cargo is placed on lighter packages. Conveyor belts, forklifts, and manual handling all create impact opportunities. This reality is why fragile items are not suitable for cargo shipping.

What items are most likely to arrive safely?

Clothing, shoes, fabrics, books, non-perishable packaged foods, plastic kitchenware, sturdy electronics in original packaging (not batteries), toys, bedding, and other robust household items travel well. Items that are inherently durable and can withstand pressure and minor impacts are ideal for cargo shipping. Avoid anything that requires "Handle with Care" treatment.

Does insurance cover electronics or valuable items?

Our basic insurance of $50 per package covers lost/undeliverable packages only, not damage. This coverage does not vary based on item value. A package containing £500 worth of goods receives the same $50 coverage as a package with £50 of goods. For valuable items, consider whether the risk of damage without compensation is acceptable before shipping.

Can I purchase additional insurance for my shipment?

We do not currently offer additional insurance coverage beyond the standard $50 per package for lost items. Third-party cargo insurance providers exist, but would need to be arranged independently. Contact your insurance provider to enquire about international cargo coverage if you need higher protection.

What is Cargo Force's liability for my shipment?

Cargo Force liability is strictly limited to $50 per package for lost or undeliverable shipments. We are not liable for: damage of any kind (breakage, dents, scratches, water damage), delays caused by customs or carriers, confiscation of prohibited items, incorrect delivery addresses provided by customers, or items packed inadequately by the sender. All carrier pickup terms and conditions apply to your shipment.
