How Is Your Quote Calculated?
The shipping rate is based on the higher of the actual weight or volumetric weight of your package:
Volumetric Weight = (Length × Width × Height in cm) ÷ 5000
Once your shipment reaches our warehouse, both weights will be assessed to confirm final billing. The minimum charge of £40 applies even if you're sending 1–9 kg.
What's Included in Your Quote
No hidden fees – all mandatory charges are included in your quote
Note: This service is strictly for household goods and personal effects – not for commercial items.
What's Not Included (Extra Charges)
The following charges may apply in specific situations:
Tip: The £60 surcharges for heavy weight and long length are waived if you drop off at our warehouse instead of arranging pickup.
Understanding Chargeable Weight
In shipping, the weight you're charged for might not match the actual weight of your shipment. This is because we need to consider both weight and space when calculating rates.
Why does this matter?
Imagine a large box of pillows – it's light but takes up a lot of space on the plane. Or a small box of books – it's heavy but doesn't take much space. The chargeable weight system ensures fair pricing for both scenarios.
Chargeable Weight = The greater of Actual Weight or Dimensional Weight
Actual Weight vs Dimensional Weight
Actual Weight
This is simply how much your package weighs when you put it on a scale. Also called gross weight or dead weight.
Example: You place your box on a scale and it reads 15 kg. That's your actual weight.
Dimensional Weight
This reflects the volume of your package – the amount of space it occupies relative to its actual weight. Also called volumetric weight.
(Length × Width × Height) ÷ 5000
All measurements in centimetres
Practical Examples
Shipping Pillows & Bedding
Chargeable Weight:24 kg
Dimensional weight is higher, so you pay for the space
Shipping Books & Heavy Items
Chargeable Weight:25 kg
Actual weight is higher, so you pay for the weight
Remember: We always round up to the next whole kilogram. If your chargeable weight is 16.3 kg, it becomes 17 kg.
