Describe Your Items Correctly for Indian Customs
Why Proper Descriptions Matter
Indian customs officers need to identify exactly what is in your shipment. Vague descriptions like "Clothes" or "Kitchen items" cause delays because officers must open and inspect every box. This can add weeks to your delivery time. Describe items clearly to ensure smooth customs clearance.
The 3 Golden Rules
Be Specific
Not "Clothes" - say "Cotton T-shirts" or "Silk Sarees"
Mention Material
Not "Pot" - say "Stainless steel pot" or "Non-stick pan"
Include Quantity
Not "Bottles" - say "Baby feeding bottles 250ml (3)"

Packing Tips by Category
Important: No Compensation for Damages
There is no compensation for damages. Goods are handled by multiple vendors, vehicles, and people during transit. We provide outer protective layers, but this cannot protect against impacts or heavy loads. Pack as if your items will be dropped.
Clothing
Roll clothes tightly to save space, use vacuum bags for bulky items like jackets and blankets
Footwear
Stuff shoes with paper to maintain shape, wrap each pair separately, use original boxes if available
Kitchen Appliances
Use original boxes with foam inserts, wrap cords separately, secure all loose parts and jars
Kitchenware
Wrap each item individually in bubble wrap or newspaper, fill gaps between items, avoid stacking heavy on light
Books
Stack flat in small bundles, wrap in plastic bags to protect from moisture, place at bottom of box
Food Items
Ensure packets are properly sealed, avoid items that can melt, use ziplock bags for extra protection
Personal Care
Seal all liquids in ziplock bags, use travel-size containers where possible, tape bottle caps
Electronics
Use original packaging if available, wrap in bubble wrap, keep chargers and cables in separate bags
Fragile Items
Triple wrap with bubble wrap, mark boxes clearly as FRAGILE, place in centre of box away from edges - but best to avoid sending
Fragile Items Warning
Glassware, ceramics, mirrors, and extremely fragile items: While allowed, we strongly advise NOT to send these. In our experience, one has to be very lucky to have such items arrive safely. Goods undergo different intensity of impacts, heavy goods are loaded onto packages, and items change hands multiple times. If you must send fragile items, understand there is a very high risk of breakage and no compensation.
